“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single
step.” —LAO-TZU
Everybody knows the story of Microsoft with
Bill Gates, Apple with Steve Jobs and Facebook with Mark Zuckerberg, those people
could be considered, if they are not, the most successful people in the world.
Unfortunately, when we try to follow their steps we found many complex concepts
in their products and you may lose
your excitement by all those technical ideas that they bring in. Then,
you start saying: I am just an average person, how could I bring something as
good as those solutions. After that, you will certainly feel unconfident about your skills and your talent. Then your
motivation will fade.
Instead of talking about those big names, I
want to share with you the story of an average guy, his biggest qualification
was having a good relationship with trusted locals and longtime expats on the
ground. I believe that he lived the most incredible journey to success. I must
confess that his story was the reason why I started to follow my passion and
live on my own path by my own rules. My hero is Brian Morgan, the founder of
Adventure Life. He started his business in 1998 by spending $3000 for two
brochures and a laptop. Morgan was working as a consultant in Quito, Ecuador,
one day he decided to return to his home in Montana. While he was in Montana,
an idea crossed his mind. This
idea changed his life forever.
“There is nothing so powerful as an idea whose time
has come.”- Victor Hugo
He decided to organize a little trip to
Ecuador and promoted it locally. This experience made him realized that guided
tours were actually a niche industry that his own travel experiences and
Ecuador connections had prepared him to explore further. In 2008, Morgan’s
revenue was $11 Million; YES, he turned his $3000 into an $11 Million in just
10 years, with a growth rate near to 4000% ! 4000% !! Do you realize how Huge
is that. If you do, then you have to learn your first lesson: Stop wasting time
and start tracking your own goals. The earlier you begin, the fastest you will
get there.
In 2007, Adventure life start offering
small ship cruises throughout the world and they expand their list of
destinations to explore other countries. The company also launches an online
community forum offering traveler Trip Journals. The quality of their services
helped the Adventure Life to reach an incredible success and earn many awards
the last one was the Travel Weekly Magellan Award in 2013.
It is clearly from his story; Brian did not
achieve this incredible success just by chance. He decided to make a change in
his life because he wanted more. He was not convinced by what he was doing, he
needed something else, something new. He did not know what it is, still he made
his choice, he quit his life in Quito, moved back to Montana and he ended up
discovering what he really want it to do.
