“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” Paul J. Meyer
We usually
think that we have enough time to get things done, but by the end of the day,
we find ourselves behind our schedules, which could generate feelings of stress
and overwhelm. At this point, you need to work on your productivity and you
have to be smart about how you manage your time and your energy. Being productive is
using your time to achieve your goals (short-term and long-term goals) and by
doing this you will bring joy and fulfillment to your life. Here are some ideas
that, with a bit effort, you could implement and take back control of your
time.
Track
your time
The first thing you need to do is to understand where your time goes. Once you do that, you
will be shocked that you are wasting your time on some silly stuffs, which you
should avoid in the future.
Plan and
prioritize
At the end
of each day, make a list of tasks you need to accomplish. Classify your list
from most important to least important and block out time for your important
items.
Focus on
one task
By focusing
on one thing at a time you will gain in time and energy, once you complete a task, move to another one instead of multi-tasking. Well, multi-tasking will just
bring you the feelings of being overwhelmed and the impulse to flee into
procrastination.
Eliminate
Try to find
out tasks you can eliminate with few or no consequences.
Take a
break
You cannot
focus all the time so plan your breaks between tasks. You should shoot for
working in short bursts at your most productive times.
Say No
Say no for
any source of distraction while you have not achieved your goals. If someone
asks you for help, you can simply say, “I’m sorry I can’t help you now, I have
some work to finish first” and that will keep you away from overwork.
